  • Dear Diana Wynne Jones, As I write this, I am trying to deceive myself so my consciousness would not realise this daring act of writing to someone of your importance. I hope you will be pleased to know that I have just recently pledged myself to be one amongst your legions of adoring fans. I confess that when I was introduced to Howlâs Moving Castle, I condemned it as Îone of THOSE booksâ about pre teens managing their lives around their newfound magic powers, flying of on broomsticks to chase flying golden balls and the works. (It was the fault of the book cover, really. I am one of those unfortunate few who always judge a book by its cover without any regards to the age-old saying. I regard any non-chromatic book cover to be kiddish and not really what a 16 year old would read). All right, so that was my second thought. My first thought was to ask myself where I had been all this time when I happened to chance upon the date of publication for your work. But back to my second thought, it turned out that your books were those kinds of books after all, but in such a wonderful refreshing way, I couldnât possibly make anyone understand until they have read one themselves, and any 16 year old with enough sense would be fooling themselves if they thought otherwise. I think Howlâs Moving Castle is a work of art by itself and that the few Chrestomanci books I have read are the kinds that go well with or without accompaniment of a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket on a cold rainy day. I was going to start with a plea for you to write more Chrestomanci or Howl books until, that is, I realised that it was terribly selfish of me to want that, because of course one cannot just want to write a book, grab a pen and start (With an exception of NaNoWriMo participants). So, I will resign myself to wait, though I canât promise to do so patiently, until a blessed idea strikes you on the head to write a Chrestomanci or Howl book. P.S.: I was wondering if you have any plans to have a book signing session in Malaysia. As it is, fans in Malaysia are having it tough. We canât seem to find some of your books in bookshops nearby, though there are plenty of books about the life of a certain young boy studying in a certain school of witchcraft and wizardry.

From Philippa Hammond

  • Hello... Thank you for your contribution to the mass of superb fiction which I encountered throughout my childhood. I was delighted [it seemed so right] to find just now that you had been taught by Lewis and Tolkein at University, especially since twenty years ago I was charmed to discover that I was being taught by your sister Isobel at Southampton uni. My partner has read very little children's fiction, being more into science and art, so a few years ago I embarked on reading the best stuff aloud to him. Narnia, E Nesbit, Alan Garner, Malcolm Saville, Pamela Brown and Noel Streatfield's stories about the theatre, they're all being read as I revisit them and he is learning a lot about me because of them. We've just done Power of Three - what a fabulous film that would make. I'm currently attempting to write my own novel set in the here and now, but with echoes of England's ancient past. With thanks and very best wishes to you.

  • To mS Jones You know about two years ago, if you caught me reading a book, you would think it was a miracle, so it barely happened. Untill For Christmas i got a book of the Chrestomanci series, and although i though it was a dud present, i decided it was only polite to read it as a thankyou. after reading that wonderfull book (The lives of Christopher Chant) I now find myself always reading books, whenever i possible can. I have read your books at least 7 times each! Although i have only read 5 of the books, i am still searching for the others, because they don't sell them andwhere i can find, and it s really hard to grab one! Your beautifull way of writting has inspired me, not only to read, to have a good future, and so many other things! Oh pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee write a nother book soon! ALthough i like the Harry Potter books, you could wipe J.K Rowling out easy! And create a movie to your books! That would be so cool! Thankyou so much i am ever so gratefull for you to take th etimes and listen to me babble on. Bye

  • Greetings, Madam Diana. I have the immense misfortune to be born to a librarian. Not just any librarian, mind you, one who has the audacity to work as a School-Librarian. Now while normally that would pose no great threat to my sanity, I fear I must admit to a feeling of animosity towards you. Please allow me to explain. I first read your Chestomanci series when I was young, maybe nine years of age at the time. It was because of you that I have not stopped reading. Even after eleven years of reading anything I could come across, Tolkien, Niven, Terrance Dicks scripts, I find myself constantly returning to your stories. Your stories twist and turn, not only can the hapless reader not guess what will happen within the next page, he cannot help but to turn to the next after it. Let me repeat this. Once a body has begun to read your book, it is impossible to stop. Like the call to the bounds, the book grows louder and louder, until you are forced to finish the story. Unfortunately, my mother IS a School-Librarian. Which means most of my access to 'childrens books' come from her. Why unfortunately? Because all the other students come to her as well! She has 3 copies of Hexwood, and they never appear to be returned. Students line up for your books. If I may have a moment of tantrum, I can't stand it! Every time I finish one of your books, I feel a cold emptyness inside me. Closing the book is like saying a final goodbye to good friend. What cold sorceress are you, that you would curse readers so? I may not be your 'number one fan', and I have unfortunately not read all of your books. But I am an avid reader, and having read several copies of your stories to dust, I will always buy them if I see them in the bookshop. But until then, I shall remain in agony, having just finished reading Homeward Bounders. Forever Reading, Paul.

  • When I was living in Ottawa, I discovered that their library had a book listed as by Diana Wynne Jones that I have never seen on any other list of her books. It was never in when I was there, so I was unable to get a look at it. The following is from their online catalogue. If someone recognizes it as an alternate title or something, it would be great if you could post it. Author Jones, Diana Wynne. Title Cupid with red hair [text (large print)] / Diana Wynne. Edition [Large print ed.], complete and unabridged. Publisher Leicester : Linford, 1999, c1993. Description 234 p. Series Linford romance library

From Becca S.

  • Im 14 years old and absolutly addicted to your books. I would like to thank you for your wonderful contributions to the world of fantasy and science fiction. Your books really inspire a deeper level of thought, and the Chrestomanci series continues to amaze me no matter how many times I read it. Howl's Moving Castle should be great on film.

From Taylor

  • I love your books! I am a 12 year-old in Seventh grade and i love to read. My favorite of your books is The crown of Dalemark, well, it is so far. I can't wait to read Stealer of Souls and The Willing Warlock! Dogsbody was an awesome book as well, with amazing depth and underlying storylines that you find yourself enjoying as much as the main ones! Someday I hope to write books half as good as yours!

From Kimberlina Glusing

  • How would I beable to own a copy of all of your books...I have 6 already. The Dalemark Quartet, and Chronicles of Chrestomanci; both books. I enjoy your work so much.

From Neil Snowdon

  • Just reading through some past Q&A's... it's interesting that no one has tried to make movies of teh Chrestomanci books. I'm just re-reading them now and think they are fantastically cinematic for the most part, and really wouldn't take much to do them successfully. That said, to do them justice, it might work better as an ongoing series for TV, so long as you got a decent director (so much TV now just seems so utterly dull in terms of visual story telling). The Magicians of Caprona in particular would be fantastic if anyone could pull it off... the scenes of the two families fighting via chanted magic in the streets could be awe inspiring, if both sound and picture worked properly. I guess the only problem lies in the fact that, though Chrestomanci came first, Potter is currently in the mainstream eye, and those who didn't know better, might write it off as something inspired by, or (god forbid) aspiring to Potter (even though your work sails clear miles over Rowlings head). As someone who writes and dreams and wouldn't mind a crack at dramatising something of yours, i'd love to have a go and pitch it for film or TV. Any chance we can talk about this? I've nothing on my resume except passion, commitment and fierce imagination, but i hope you respond. with love and thanks for many many hours of pleasure lost in your books, and further thanks for them keeping me afloat in times i felt like drowning. Neil Snowdon. H

  • Hi.I am an avid reader and I just wanted to know if the concept of an "If-world",which depends on the outcome of a historical event, was solely your idea, and is it copyright? I am 12 years old and I really want to be an author when I grow up.A while ago, I wrote a short story and it included this concept, but then I read the Chrestomanci series and I'm really scared I'm subconciously using your idea. By the way, I think your books are brilliant, especially the Chrestomanci series and "Fire and Hemlock". Cya

  • I was just wondering if you have ever had writer's block, what it felt like to you, and what you did to get out of it? All I've ever wanted to do is write, but for the last few months everything I start on just seems flat. While I'm used to floundering a bit in the middle, now my writing just seems to crumple itself up and die before the beginning. I've never really had this problem before, and I'm scared that I've somehow used up all my ideas. I know it isn't rational, but none of my friends are writers, so I don't know if I really could have lost it.

From Nadhira

  • Dear DWJ, I'm Nadhira from Malaysia. I think Howl's Moving Castle and the Chrestomanci series is a wonderful creation! I can't stop reading them. I think you should write more books about Chrestomanci because I adore him very much. Oh, and Howl too. Thanks to your book, my essay has already improved. Oh, and please o please, I begged you to write more stories about Chrestomanci... I love CHRESTOMANCI very much! That's all, bye~ From your biggest fan of all, Nadhira

From Kelsey Gembala

  • I absolutely love your books. I can't believe how good they are!! I was wondering why you decided to write booke for all ages of readers. I love to write and know it can be difficult to change the story for the different levels of readers. YOUR BOOKS ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Richard Martin

  • To Diana, I wrote to ask you about The Lives Of Christopher Chant. The first question i want to ask you is: What happened to Jason the Boot Boy? The second: Which of your books did you like best? I have got all of your books and read them all twice. My favourite one would be either The Lives Of Christopher Chant in whitch my best character would be Tacroy and Charmed life in which my best character would be between Chrestomanci, Millie or Cat. Happy new year From Richard P.S. What happens to Cat and Gwendolen when they grow up? Has there ever been a female Chrestomanci?

From Becca Stelfox

  • I know you must hear this from all your fans, but you are a total inspiration to me. I picked up the Howl books and immediately fell in love with your writing. Your books are in depth but still leave a certain amount for you to figure out on your own. Hopefully I can read all of your books but some are hard to find. I was especially pleased to find your book of short stories titled Everard's ride as the name Everard is a family name that I have never heard of outside of my father. Thank you for all your wonderful books and I know you will become one of the great authors in history. :)

From Mary Oliver (and her mum)

  • My mum still reads to me each night although I am 10 1/2, and she says to tell you that it has been a thrill and a delight to discover your books as it makes her job a positive pleasure. In fact my parents have been known to squabble (genteely) about who is to be allowed to read me the next instalment. My mum's favourite creation of yours is Calcifer; she says he is inspired. And the fake Greek at the end of "The Ogre Downstairs" started a craze of writing messages to each other using the Greek alphabet. Oddly we found both The Ogre and Howl in charity shops - but I expect they will become harder to find like this, if your books achieve the massive popularity they deserve. OK, I'll come clean - it was Mary's mum writing all the time.

From Samantha Weber

  • I just saw at the top of one of the website pages that a film is to be made of Howls Moving Castle!!! I am so excited! I started reading a lot again once I got The Chronicles of Chrestomanci as a gift. Those are my favorite books in the whole world!!! I tell all my friends about them. They love them too! I was wondering if there was a chance that maybe you could see if a movie of The Chronicles of Chrestomanci could be made. If so, could you post the time and place for the auditions if they are open to the general public? I understand that you are VERY busy being so important, but if you ever have some extra time on you hands I was hoping maybe you could look into that. Thanks for your time, Samantha Weber

From Michelle Yap

  • Dear Diana, I have read the whole Chrestomanci Series and I really enjoyed it! My question for you is: - Will there be a contination about Cat's journey to becoming a Chrestomanci and Gwen's return? I really hope there would be a contination. I also hope that you will get better. Thank you for inspiring me to read fantasy novels. Yours, Michelle Yap.

From Sara

  • I know that you've probably been asked and pleaded with about this a million times, but i'm just BEGGING you to write another Chrestomanci book! I only got both of them about a week ago and i've finished them already! i'm trying to read more of your books, but i barely have any time at all to go the book store or the library, or anything! I think, if you do get inspired to write one, that one world (Preferably Chrestomanci's world) would begin to have a conflict with Series 11 about someone from that series illegally escaping after stealing back his soul and coming for refuge with Chrestomanci. I know that idea is VERY VERY VERY out there....but i'm trying!! so, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Adrienne

  • I recived Volume I of the Chrestomanci books for X-mas and couldn't believe it. I got so caught up in it that I didn't realized I was finished until I turned the page and there were no more words (you can imagine the diappiontment:)! The only thing I've been dying to say is that Chrestomanci is my hero!!:-) I think he is just the coolest person in the whole world. Sometimes I wish he would visit me some day (yes I know he's a fictional character)!! My favorite Chrestomanci has Christopher Chant. He is just so neat. If I were to be a ruler or leader of something that's who I'd model my self after him. AHhhhhhh!!!!! One burrnning question: Which Chant is Chrestomanci in "Witch Week"? I think Chrestomanci is great for all ages. Hey I'm 17 and thinking about writing my college essay about how Chrestomanci has effected my life!! Adios!

From Stephanie

  • Heyhey!! I know u probably dont read all of these because there are soo many!! But i just wanted to say that i have read the first book in the Chrestomanci series and am well into the second. I got them for christmas hoping for replacements for the Harry Potter books i had to leave behind when i moved and when i saw those books with cats on the cover i was very confused! After i was bored and decided to open up the first book i got SUCKED IN!! I just couldnt put it down, i was up for a whole day and night laying in bed reading it! I couldnt believe it. Then i got to part two and was confused at first, but it was just as great as the first part. My mind was literally sucked into this book, i couldnt believe how a sister could take her brother's lives just to do magic! I was sooo amazed at how real the characters seemed and then when Christopher was traveling to different worlds so carelessly losing lives left and right i couldnt stop laughing!! He falls down the stairs, breaks his neck and then say did i lose another one?? Just thinking of the look on Chrestomanci's face made me laugh continually! Well, i have to go, Just wanted to say THANKS SOO MUCH FOR THE GREAT BOOKS!!!!!!! **HUGZ** ~~Stephanie age 13~~

From Brittney

  • Diana, I loved your book The Chronicles of Chrestomanci Volume 1. My friend got me started on reading your books and thats the only one I have read. The stories are great and keep me excitied the whole time. I loved that book so much that I had to go out and buy the Volume 2. As soon as I get some more money I'm going to buy the Dark Lord of Derkholm and Year of thr Griffin. I enjoy your books I hope to get the whole collection. To tell you the truth I've read the whole Harry Potter series about six times but I know I enjoy your books a lot more. Thank you. Brittney- 14 years old

  • I just finish your book Deep Secret, I really liked it. Is their any chance their might be a second book with these charictors in it? exspesaly Nick and Rupert Venables? The end of the book kind hinted toward a sequal, will Nick try to become a Magid? if he does will Rupert be the one to teach him? I think that would be funny if he did. Will Rupert and Marece get married? I am also wondering if A sudden Wild Magic will be reprinted? I really liked that book too. It has now tied with Deep Secret. And also will their be a sequal to that book? I think both have a good ability to have qreat sequals because both are so complicated and have such original, interesting, complex charictors. I think thier is still alot that could happen after Deep secret. I think Nick still has alot of charictor growth he could go through and changes. Rupert has learned alot from the first book but how would he be in a couple years? would he make a good leader? How would he do if he had to deal with a big situation by himself, without his brothers? Would he be a good Mentor? These are a few of the questions going on in my head now. I really love all of your books and I am makeing an effort to collect all of them. I am also into writing, and are currently trying to revise my first finished "book".( its a rough, rough, rough draft in two sketch books so I'm exagerating a little bit.) I also like Art alot and I am intrested in illistrating books. Well I'll stop talking your arm off. p.s Thanks for all the great books you have written. p.p.s sorry for the spelling.

From A Martin

  • Ok, here's my rather long babble about your wonderful writing (shall try to make it interesting, but don't count on it.) First off I would like to say i'm a great fan of your books (cliche i know, but what can you say? "you're one funkadelic groovy writer", don't think so.) and although i have read and own most of your books i particularly loved Fire and Hemlock. I was, however, quite disappointed by the abrupt ending and how you didn't go into how the magic worked. I also have a small story, which you may or may not want to hear. Tonight i was looking for my copy of Fire and Hemlock when i couldn't find it. High and Low, near and far, i have looked, but it is no where to be found. I thought this was an interesting story because this is the second copy i've bought after i did exactly the same this with the first! Ah, well, it's such a good book i'll go buy another one (i hope this isn't some great marketing campaign to get me to by this book over and over again) Well as i near the end of my hero worship (is that a touch extreme?) I would just like to say i'd be very happy if you came down to visit Australia and that J K Rowling doesn't even come close to your writing genius. (you mentioned my lovely island in fire and hemlock, i'm so happy, if not slightly crazy)

  • Hello Miss Diana. I am 11 years old.And i have enjoyed the chronicles of chrestomanci. I have read charmed life, and in the processof reading the lives of christopher chant. They just make me wonder what will happen next, and what life would be like if those kind of things coud realy happen. i never knew you wrote sooo many books untill today. but i have one question, did you dream about this stuff and come up for ideas for this set of books, or how did you get the idea. it is just so enchanting. i no i might seem just a little over welmed. bt i would just like to tell you how i got a hold of your books. one day my aunt and my grandfather , and i , we all went to the book store. i found volume 1 & 2, and another book i belive it was called the witch child. i told her could i have these. my grandfather told her not to get me anything unless i payed for them all . my aunt look at him . and then looked at me. my eyes filled with tears. i didnt cry . but ( i love books ) i just wanted them all so bady . she said i shouldnt be reading about things that could never happen. she claims i have a overactive imagination.but she said i could get only one. but then she looked again at the prices. she said that i could get both of your books. i agreed cause they were the ones the sparked my brain first. so we left. and now i am glad i got them . i have t say thank you , for just writing these wonderful tales of adventure, and fanecy . only if every one in the world could read , they would be able to share the exitment to.........

  • I would like you to know that almost twenty years ago, when my four children were aged between twelve and six, The Ogre Downstairs made our holiday in France absolutely blissful. Every day after lunch I would hear the children shouting 'TOD,TOD!', and this meant that the two girls were going to read another section of the story to their little brothers. And this meant that my husband and I had half an hour every day to read Robertson Davies and Margaret Atwood - or just to relax by the pool. All four children enjoyed the story. It made a huge difference to our holiday experience, and I've felt grateful to you ever since.

From Mickey

  • Keep up the good work and i love your books and i read them all the time. I don't have a favourite because all the books of yours that i have read are great. I don't think you will ever run out of story's to tell and everyone who reads them will always be enthralled!!!!!

  • wrote this tribute poem based on The Homeward Bounders (but with a few tweaks). some of the rhyming's well dodgy, i know. :-) And travelling far from world to world The secrets locked in things emerged Those truest names of beast and bird And things by mortals never heard He won them through his seeking. Then flushed with this he sought the king Time's eldest offspring newly winged And told him of this knowledge hinged On voyages far and tireless skill The demon child of Time. That one long held him in his gaze Then called out to his earthly slaves To take him to a rock in chains And bind him there for many an age Till one without hope should free him. And that he should not lose his mind And endless darkness seek to find They nailed an anchor to his rock From which were threaded mighty lines That hope should never leave him. And there he lay from day to day To wile the tireless hours away And much he saw on that hard stay Whose sight was far and clear always Upon that rock ungiving. And every night an eagle came Pecked deep till he cried out in pain His helpless spirit wept and waned And storms from heaven darkly rained Upon this tethered titan. Long years his prison held him fast Much ardour from the world was lost The birds and beasts grew weak of caste Hope drew from them their very hearts For Time's dark son to feed on. Till one day wandering down the hill Came one long lost without a home Whose hope was gone and eyes were still And carried on his back a load Clear-sight alone could read it. And there he saw the titan bound The tatters streaming from his wound And dry with waiting to be found For hope lay fast upon his heart And nothing now could move it. Seeing the boy approaching slow Clear sight revealed the hidden load Asked him how he'd found this road Had he a cloak to ward the cold That he might spread upon him? The boy took pity on this fool Drew off his cloak of heavy wool And laid it on his body cold And knelt to reach a nearby pool And touched the threaded anchor. The mighty chains fell back and snapped The threaded anchor loudly cracked The earth drew breath, the oceans wept And colour to the world streamed back As one long chained took freedom. Now as he rose the son of Time Swept down in chains to closely bind The titan who was free at last But pain had lent him awesome strength And long years in his prison. He took him in a mighty hold And hurled him far beyond the worlds And closed the door 'gainst his return And sealed it fast with mighty words That he should no more come here. And as a further guard 'gainst woe The boy would walk the worlds alone Who no more had a name for home But far and wide he'd sadly roam To keep the worlds in safety. And now at last their forms returned Those truest names that things had earned And without which they burdened were They talked in tongues of what they'd learned And tranquil beat their lightened hearts.

  • Hi! My names Lauren, and I am 13. (14 on 17th of Feburary.) I LOVE your books! I started reading "Howl's Moving Castle" after finding out it would be made into an animated movie by my favorite anime artist/director. Alot of movies based on books, well ruin the books. So of course I had to read the book first. As soon as I finished it I checked out "Castle in The Air". I loved them both! I am now reading the Chrestomanci Series or Chronicles.. whichever they're called. Anyway they are awsome too and in my ranking, they're up there with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I like your books almost more than Rowlings! I must say, you shouldn't worry too much about how Miyazaki does the film. He's the best anime artist I've ever seen. His last film won alot of awards and is even nominated for an Academy Award. Well that's about it, and if it helps I'll right to Disney too ta ask them to play it in Brittain and that area. It'd just be mean if they don't play it there, I mean it's based on your book. K well Bai!

  • Hi, Just wanted to say i love your books and writing style. I have been a big fan of Fantasy and Science fiction since i started seriously reading novels in kindergaten, but your books are easily amoung the best in the genre. I love you characters although i sometimes get a little irritated when i finish them, as i want the stories to go on and on. I know it is a faint hope, but is there any chance at all that there will be more books set around the Dalemark characters, especially Maewen and Mitt? I don't know if you mentioned it elsewhere, but will the Howl's Moving Castle Anime be released in Australia? And do you ever come over to Australia for book signings or conventions?

  • Dear Diana, I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through a spinal operation. My name is Nathaniel and I'm a great fan of your books. I live in Singapore, South-east Asia. I'm 12 but going to be 13 this January 2003. I just cannot stop saying how much I love your books, since there can't be a reply... I guess you'll read this then ok? You know what diana? I'm crying now... I can't believe the author I like so much is reading this... Keep on writing!

  • I found this on the web site of an Australian role playing game convention (Dungeons and Dragons and all that). "The icy glare of the moon tore free of the ragged clouds banked high over the northern peaks.Ê Pools of water gleamed with silver light in the wake of the storms [sic] fury.Ê Distant lightning still lanced down to strike the mountain's eternal slopes. F'nar shook his head with annoyance, scattering a hail of droplets,Êand stared at his shadowy companions in disgust." (penned by a Jason Steel). I giggled immoderately at someone actually using your joke fantasy name "F'nar" in a serious context, and realised I had to share it with you if possible. Thanks for all the fun books! But especially the Rough Guide.

  • hello um i'm almost finished dark lord of the derkholm and it's my first book of your's and it kinda of makes me mad how i didn't know about them earlier and well i hope to get year of the griffin and i'd like to ask if you think you'll make more books about derk and his family??and is year of the griffin as good as dark lord of the derkholm?

From Maddison

  • Dear Ms. Jones, I was wondering if you ever made a sequal to Year Of The Griffen it is one of my favorite books and I believe that the end hints to a new beginning of a totally differint book. Possibly one about Flury trying to get Elda's respect. I've probably bored you to sleep by now, so if you're still awake and reading please email me an answer. Yours Truly Maddison

  • Your books are wonderful creations and I always get hooked on them. I live in America and I am 14 years old. I have a few questions so if you could bare with me I would deeply appreciate it. First of all, I recently found out there was to be a Howl's Moving Castle animated movie made. Have you seen any of Miyazaki's other animation films? Are you excited that a such a big name is making the adaptation? Did you meet Mr. Miyazaki? I was reading in the archives that you were working on a story about Nick Mallory. I just finished Deep Secrets and was dying for more. If the story on Nick is still in the works can you tell me a bit more about it. (As in a release date) How do you come up with the names for your characters? At what stage of the character's development do you give them a name? Whenever I try writing my fantasy stories always come out stiff and a bit boring. What can I do to remedy this? I find it splendid that you really do believe in magic. Most people dismiss it as nonsense and strictly fairy tale material. In a world so based on science I sometimes find my faith in magical things wavering. Authors and people like you give me hope. :) Finally, I just wanted to say that most authors I come across are usually stingy and stuck-up. (Not unlike some of the characters in Deep Secrets) I was happy to find that you are in no way like that. Keep writing! Your books will always have a place on my bookshelf. (P.S. Sorry for any grammar/ spelling errors or repeated questions)

  • I was just wanting to write a quick letter to thank you for all the wonderful bits of imaginatitive, creative, and interesting books you have published. They are a horribly bad influence on me though (or so my teachers say) because they find me reading them more than paying attenton in class. I can't say how much reading you stories have helped me with my own. Also I can't help but asks (hopefully) wether or not there may be another book to follow The Dark Lord of Derkholm and The Year of the Griffin because I deeply adore both of these books. Ok, I thank you heartily for your time.

From Lindsay

  • I first discovered your books when my junior school teacher read 'The Ogre Downstairs' to the class. That was 25 years ago and I'm still reading and re-reading them. I think they are wonderfully inventive and funny and look forward to the next publication. Thank you Diana for so much pleasure!

From Eric from Canada

  • Hi! I really love your books, they are so imaginative! The first book by you that I bought was from a used book sale, since all of the stores around here were sold out of Charmed Life! Anyways, it turned out to be a first edition copy and my fifty cents (Canadian, so about 30 some American...) grew quite a bit!!! Naturally, I still have that book and read it all the time. What good is a book if you can't read it?!. I work in a library, and people are constantly asking about your books, which we have an unfortunate lack of. I look forward to your next book, as do all my friends at Vic (a reeeeaaaaaalllly big school) and elswhere. I was wondering, will Chrestomanci turn up again?

From Lauren

  • Eh heh. Hi, I'm Lauren. I love your book "Howl's Moving Castle". To be honest I am an anime obsessive, and I checked out the book to see what Mr. Miyazaki was doing his next movie on. I'm soo glad he's making it into a movie! (Mainly because I loved the book so much! ^_~) I also recently finished "Castle in the Sky", which I also loved. I'm really happy for you, your a great writer! It must be dissapointing to hear Disney might not play it in Brittain though. If they dont.. Uh. I'll but it when it comes out and send it to you! *laughs* I'm sure even if the movie is different from the book, it'll still be great though. (I've seen almost all his animes so I should know.) Finally, I also have the confession of err.. likeing Howl. I have to say, I also imagined him cute.. I have drawn "fanart", I suppose you would call it, of Howl. (and a few other characters) If you wanna see it I can get it on my website sometime.. or whatever. Anyway, if you are planning on writing a new book, Please make a sequel to "Howl's Moving Castle" or even to "Castle in the Sky". (I know "Castle in th Sky" is a sequel to "Howl's Moving Castle".) Really though, that'd be awsome! K anyway thankies for your time an' laterz. ^__^

From Johnna

  • I just wanted to say that I am a huge fan. If ever I were to become an author, you would be my inspiration. The way you put a new twist in every story is remarkable. I haven't read all of you books....yet. I am definately working on it. Your books are the books I read the most and the fastest because I can't tear my eyes away from them. They are also the only books I read where I don't get a headache, and I read a lot of books. My facorite are the Chrestomanci novels. THe way all of the books work together is fascinating. I must say that your imagination is inspiring! Johnna Venuto, 14
